winter's bed

some nights of late are desperate
like winter wind is not the cold
together but still separate

we pry apart though wont to hold
and still you are a stranger
like winter wind is not the cold

how we insulate from danger
I peer beneath your frozen lake
and still you are a stranger

in six more months the ice will break
so blue and breathless until then
I peer beneath your frozen lake

I hope that someday you'll fall in
and drown the noise inside our heads
so blue and breathless until then

side by side in winter's bed
some nights of late are desperate
and drown the noise inside our heads
together but still separate
